Nocturnal silence

Normally I photograph the vibrant and ever-evolving nightlife of Rotterdam, a world filled with energy, movement and self-expression. For this project, however, I decided to focus on a different side of the city—the calm, the stillness, and the quiet emptiness that takes over once the night begins to fade.

These are the moments when the music has stopped and the crowds have disappeared, when you walk home through nearly silent streets. The city feels different then, stripped of noise and distraction. Familiar places take on a new atmosphere, and the emptiness becomes almost tangible.

In this series I set out to capture that fleeting transition, when nightlife gives way to solitude and celebration turns into reflection. It is a portrait of Rotterdam not in motion, but in pause.
